My first real DIY project

My husband bought me 8 portraits from the 1830′s at an antique store here in Cypress. They were an awesome price altogether but when we to home I felt nauseous because the frames were really ugly and it was going to be about 300 to frame them how I wanted. I also hate my living room color. It’s been brown for forever. Brown walls, black frames, black Ikea bookcase, other off white or brown variations. It’s really dark.

To brighten everything up I had chosen this really pretty lavender-ish Behr color called Amethyst Phlox. Not cute on my walls but my almost 4 year old daughter loved it. After a ton of internet searching I instead decided on Light French Gray. It’s a good neutral, airy color and I can pretty much pair anything with it. I felt bad about the purple princess paint and the ugly frames and found out that I could actually paint them myself instead of buying new frames. Weird.

I really like rustic mixed with contemporary so I tried this distressed paint tutorial. My frames don’t look nearly as authentic as hers but at least I know I don’t have to buy all new furniture just because I hate the color. Trying out this furniture paint tutorialnext. I have a 200 year old dresser that needs a makeover.
